Cxli. the Technique of Glass Electrode Measurements
IN the course of an investigation into the value of the glass electrode as a means of making continuous records of the hydrogen ion concentration of circulating blood, it was found, in the preliminary experiments in which estimations were made on single samples, that there were several sources of serious error. The difficulties encountered in devising a satisfactory apparatus for measuring glas...
متن کاملThe Validity of the Glass Electrode in Ammonium Chloride Buffers
It is shown that the glass electrode may be used without appreciable error to measure pH of ammonia or ammonium chloride buffers, but that corrections must be applied above pH 8.6 if sodium ions are present in the unknown solution. Corrections are given for values from pH 8.6 to 9.4. A slight further modification of form of glass electrode used by previous workers is described.
متن کاملDevelopment of the Glass Electrode and the pH Response
The glass electrode is the most commonly used device to access the pH of an aqueous solution. It attains highly accurate measurements via simple and well-established procedures. However, the reasons why the glass electrode potential scales with hydrogen ion concentration according to almost Nernstian potential values have been long-standing challenges to explain. Only in the past 50 years has a...
متن کاملCritical measurements in the spin glass CuMn
We present experimental data on the magnetization M(H) of a CuMn 1 at. % in the range Tc~ T ~ 4 Tc, 0 H 7 teslas. We took special precautions in order to eliminate systematic errors and improve the reliability of the data. It was then possible to study the temperature dependence of the first coefficients A1, A3, A5 in the expansion of the low field magnetization data in terms of odd powers of $...
